I’ve been a gamer for many years. I’m old enough to remember when Pong was brand new to the market and recall being jealous of my friend’s shiny new Magnavox Odyssey 100. He and I spent a lot of hours knocking that little blip back and forth. I’ve maintained my love of gaming over the years and seen an evolution of graphics and sound that’s truly astounding when I look back at those modest beginnings.
There’s been vast improvements in every area of gaming since then, from sights to sounds to the way you interact with the games. Today’s controllers are designed by ergonomic experts who study the hand movements and player interactions to find just the right form for optimal performance.
Among those ergonomic areas of study is Wireless Gaming Chairs. How a player sits, and is positioned to interact with a video game controller can often make a difference in performance. Studies have proven that for both relief from joint stress and optimal performance, people who play a lot of games should pay particular attention to how they sit.
Having spent many years working in the computer game industry I’ve sat in a variety of chairs – from Aerons to balance ball. While many of them are fine for working in front of spreadsheets and word-processors, I’d never found a work-type chair that’s perfect for gaming.
It’s not surprising that I’ve passed a love of gaming on to my children. Both my son and daughter are gamers and have played the whole range of games from Puzzlers to RPG’s. I watched how my son would sit on the sofa when he played, in a variety of tangled positions and I began to worry about the effect on his body.
When I first went looking for a gaming chair for my son, I just wanted to find something that would be comfortable and give him proper support in a normal sitting position. A secondary wish, for me and him also, was to be able to isolate the audio to his local area without the use of headphones. I discovered a dizzying array of options for the gamer and spent quite a bit of time looking for the right solution. I finally settled on a chair from X Rocker, that I felt was both ergonomic and provided the sort of audio control that I wanted him to have.
What I like about the X Rocker Pro H3
The X Rocker Pro H3 4.1 meets all of the requirements I had in a gaming chair. The first thing you’ll notice about it is the way it looks. It’s sleek and stylish, like something that would be more at home in a sports car. But the best part is that it’s actually comfortable. It’s ergonomically designed to have full back support with a padded headrest and that’s important if you have one of those rainy gaming days.
While it looks like leather, it’s actually durable upholstery grade vinyl, so it will clean up nicely and hold up to whatever sort of snacky food you drop on it.
The chair is self-powered and wireless. You just plug it into standard AC power and connect the included remote to your audio out ports. Because it uses it’s own wireless connector, it works with a variety of devices from Xbox and Playstation to DVD and home theater systems.
On the side of the chair there’s a control panel with volume, bass control, input/output jacks, and a personal headphone jack. You can choose to use either the built-in speakers or the headphone jack for those times when you need to control the volume.
While we’re on the subject of audio, the X Rocker Pro H3 has four cone speakers and a subwoofer that uses Ace Bayou’s Audio Force Modulation Technology. AFM uses the open space inside the X Rocker to magnify sound quality and intensify bass. The X Rocker Pro H3 also has vibration motors that sync with your audio’s bass tones to create an even more immersive experience.
The arms are gun stock and solid, even though they’ll probably only serve as an elbow rest for typical controller holding position. The chair is foldable, with a quick release pin in the back. Remove the pin and it folds in half to fit under many beds, coffee tables or stow away in closets.
The chair is sturdy and comfortable and you can be using it within minutes of unboxing by simply plugging it in, connecting the remote to your device and loading up your game. It also makes a great chair for just relaxing and listening to your favorite music.
Here’s a quick summary of what it has to offer:
